My 5 Pillars of Mindful Parenting are:
3️⃣ Fostering relationship.
4️⃣ Being a guide, rather than a controller.
5️⃣ Embracing imperfection and repair.
Through all my learnings around parenting, these 5 are what I feel summarise the topic.
🔐 Now, there is a master key to all the above…without which, the above pillars, can simply become unsustainable.
🔑 And that master key is healing.
Namely, the healing journey of the parent.
❤️🩹 Healing means to make whole, healthy or well again.
Healing includes being on a journey of self-awareness, of noticing our patterns, of self-reflection and self-love; of taqwa, and surrender to Allah rather than control; of proactivity, speaking up when we need to, and making small, sustainable, healthier choices - one gentle, self-compassionate pivot at a time.
▪️Bottom line: it’s important to be raising ourselves, with gentle self-compassion, in order to raise our children well…
… Our kids will inevitably benefit from this, inshaAllah.
Like in any area of growth, how we are being must come first…good, wholesome, imperfect doing will inevitably stem from a place of healthy being inshaAllah.
So to begin to parent in imperfect wholeness, let’s raise and reparent ourselves ❤️
And remember as you parent, that it's not practice makes perfect, it's practice makes progress.
