Assalaamu alaikum and hello.
...and I'm so happy you're here! I'm a Mama of 2 boys under 11 and my story of parenting started over a decade ago. When I was pregnant with my first son, I distinctly remember feeling scared. I was scared that I wouldn't be a good mother for a certain reason (I was also very self-critical). So I took this uncomfortable fear to my prayer mat. After praying, I remember making du'a; something along the lines of: "Yaa Allah, make me a good mother; grant me the circumstances, resources and people to guide me in this".
And of course, Allah came through. Alhamdulillah.
I believe my journey as a now Parenting Mentor started with this dua.
I remember finding Dr Laura Markham's book Calm Parents, Happy Kids ...and that was my entryway into Mindful Parenting...I was hooked...it was soon after that that I decided that I wanted to try homeschooling instead of sending my older son to nursery at 4. Lots of books, lots of new tools, my ever present tool of dua, and a new self-compassionate way of being began to really slowly shift things for me.
When my second child was a few months old, it all began to come together...
There were moments of struggle, for sure. But they were also many moments of joy...and often times, with Allah's permission, they were intentionally designed - or came about after a different way of being.
I decided I wanted to begin writing about parenting...I started with the SAHM Tips Series (yes, I called it that!)....I started that in 2015 and there were 15 blog posts in the series and each blog post was intended to help Mamas cultivate peace and play with their younger kids at home (they're still up! - you can check them our here - at my old blog). The SAHM tips series, with adaptations and additions, in 2020 became my online course: Peace At Home With Littles.
We always said we'd take home-educating year by year; and in September 2022, at aged 10 and 7, the boys started a small school for the first time, with class sizes at a maximum of 12. They enjoy it there so far alhamdulillah.
I gave a talk in the community about Mindful Parenting in 2018, and in our year in the UAE last year, the founder of Play:Date World asked me to be on their panel of Parenting Experts. What Parents Say
I worked with Sister Warda on peaceful parenting and she helped me with sibling fighting and lying. Alhamdulillah, I have seen a lot of improvement about the sibling fighting. I will continue using her advice and I really want to say thank you so much, you helped me a lot and may Allah SWT reward you, Sister.
